Project Summary

Creating an Acoustic Test Chamber with Variable Sound Absorption Coefficients

The project required a dedicated acoustic test environment that could operate within a single test volume in two configurations (modes). The chamber needed to provide a diffuse sound field with a sound absorption coefficient (αₛ) of 0.06, while also allowing conversion to a high-absorption test chamber when required. This flexible configuration enabled different acoustic testing conditions to be achieved within the same chamber.

Engineered solution

How we solved it

IAC Acoustics developed a special chamber geometry and a new type of acoustic panels based on the Macrodyne HVRT Series (Hybrid Variable Reverberation Technology). The system allows the sound absorption coefficient of the chamber to be manually adjusted, enabling different acoustic conditions to be created within the same test volume.
