Project Challenge

Hemi-Anechoic Chamber for Precision Acoustic Testing Under a Major Flight Path

  • IAC was developing a new VDE laboratory for acoustics, noise emission and vibration measurements in Offenbach for product testing, certification, and R&D. The test environment needed to meet the requirements of ISO 3745, including stringent limits for background noise and a hemispherical free field over a reflecting plane. A major challenge was the facility’s location directly beneath the landing and take-off paths of Frankfurt Airport, resulting in high environmental noise levels.

Engineered solution

How we solved it

The combination of the Moduline acoustic system, based on double-walled NoiseLock II Regular acoustic panels, Metadyne 2000 anechoic wedges, and a floating floor system, helped achieve the required background noise levels and create a high-performance commercial acoustic laboratory in Europe.

VDE received a turnkey hemi-anechoic chamber solution for its new Offenbach test facility, with IAC managing the project from planning and design through manufacturing and installation.

Designed to meet DIN EN ISO 3745 requirements, the acoustic test facility enables to offer tests with ultra-modern measurement technology.
