Project Challenge

Fully anechoic chamber: True free-field conditions for loudspeaker testing

Engineered solution

How we solved it

To achieve the required acoustic performance, IAC designed and installed a fully anechoic acoustic chamber using the proven Microdyne® STC 60 room-within-a-room construction system.

High-performance anechoic absorber wedges were installed across all interior surfaces, including the floor area beneath a non-reflective grating floor system. This configuration creates true free-field conditions throughout the measurement volume, with valid performance down to 100 Hz and a measurement range extending to 10 kHz.

The grating floor provides safe access for personnel while allowing the chamber to accommodate heavy loudspeaker test articles and measurement equipment. Together with the high-performance isolation system, the design delivers the exceptionally low background noise levels required for precise acoustic measurement.

Project Results

What the project delivered

The completed fully anechoic chamber provides a controlled acoustic environment for loudspeaker development, benchmarking and validation.

The chamber enables precise measurement of sound power, frequency response, directivity and other critical acoustic parameters, while maintaining the low background noise and free-field conditions required for automotive audio system development.
